Screw Conveyor/ Feeder

Function and use

A screw feeder is a device used in various industries to accurately and continuously transport bulk materials or powders from a storage unit or hopper to a processing or packaging system. It consists of a rotating screw or auger that moves the material along a trough or tube, controlling the flow rate and ensuring a consistent supply.

Screw feeders can be integrated into automated production lines and systems, allowing for seamless material handling and reducing manual labor. They can be synchronized with other equipment, such as conveyors, mixers, or extruders, to optimize the overall production process.

TYPES OF SCREW

Inclined screw conveyors generally function at angles ranging from just above horizontal up to 45 degrees from the horizontal. As the incline angle increases, the efficiency of material transport decreases, and the horsepower needed rises because of gravitational forces and the potential for bulk materials to slide back. We specialize in designing inclined screw conveyors that maintain higher efficiencies despite these challenges.

Dosing Screw conveyors are the most commonly used type, designed to transport bulk materials from one point to another along a horizontal path. These conveyors come in various sizes, lengths, configurations, and materials, making them versatile for different applications.

Tubular Screw

SAT India is a premier manufacturer of tubular screw conveyors in India. These conveyors and feeders are highly adaptable to various requirements for transporting powder or granular materials. Each tubular screw conveyor is custom designed based on the specific material, distance, and conveying rate needed.

A tubular screw conveyor includes several key components: at least one inlet and outlet spout, flanges at each end, a helicoid screw flight welded to a central pipe with coupling bushes at both ends, two end bearing assemblies with self-adjusting shaft seals, and multiple intermediate hanger bearings, depending on the conveyor’s overall length.

This type of screw conveyor is extensively used in the food, chemical, and polymer industries, as well as in numerous other industrial applications.

U-trough screw conveyor is extensively used for transporting bulk solids such as powders, granules, flakes, and pellets. Its construction features a helical screw flight welded onto a central pipe, with a specific configuration depending on the conveyor’s overall length. Many of these standard conveyors are designed for in-house use as part of our turnkey projects in industries like food, chemicals, breweries, distilleries, and starch manufacturing.

The U-trough screw conveyor boasts a robust and versatile design, ensuring consistent transport of dry solid materials without causing preferential feeding. We specialize in custom designing and manufacturing screw conveyors to meet specific requirements.

Reversible screw conveyor: In intricate industrial operations, there is often a need to efficiently meter dry bulk solids from a silo or hopper to two different locations. Serving two delivery points with a single common extractor, rather than having two separate outlets on the storage container, is recommended. Separate outlets can lead to issues such as dead storage zones and uneven flow stresses. Our reversible screw feeder, featuring a central inlet, offers an ideal solution to these challenges.
